Why Law of Attraction Might Not Be Working For You

Law of attraction is easy, right? If you want something you just think about it, visualize it, day-dream about it, put up some pictures of it on your vision board, and BAM, it happens. That’s why you and me are multi-millionaires, in the perfect relationship(s) for us, living a life of complete ease, and free from worries or cares.

But that’s not really the truth is it? I can only assume that if you are reading this article, you still feel like there is more to learn about the law of attraction. And likely this also means that you still have things that you want that you haven’t yet seen materialize in your life, and maybe even that the law of attraction is not working for you as simply and easily as all those self-help gurus from The Secret told you it does.

Well I hate to be the turd in the punch-bowl, but this most common paradigm about the law of attraction and how it works is grossly incomplete. Many people resist any talk that what we’re commonly taught about the law of attraction isn’t entirely true, but if you take a hard, honest look at your life, I think you’ll have to admit that on some level at least, this is true..

The good news about realizing that you don’t have all the pieces to the puzzle is that it opens you back up to the possibility of being able to find the ones that you are missing. You’re not going to go looking for something you believe you already have, right? My hope is that this article can give you one of these crucial pieces that may have been missing up until now.

What’s Missing in the Law of Attraction?

My personal opinion is that the popular law of attraction paradigm does not go deep enough. We hear that we can have whatever we want and we instantly start trying to manifest this and that, like a little kid in a candy store. But how often do we stop to go a little bit deeper and try to understand exactly why we want what we want? I can promise you that that deeper reason makes all the difference in what you manifest for yourself, and how well the law of attraction works for you while you are moving towards achieving your goals and dreams.

To be clear, I am not talking about morality here. I’m not taking the angle that your intentions must be “good” or “pure” or for the good of mankind (though I do believe that this would help too). What I am really getting at is the level of flow you are in when you set out with that initial desire that turns into a goal.

As human beings, we are really quite simple in our motivations. We are hard-wired at the biological level to move towards pleasure and away from pain. But this is where we can shoot ourselves in the foot when we use the law of attraction. It is all too common from our goals and desires to stem from the context of us hating where we are now. We want more money because we are not happy with what or how much we have. We want a better job because we hate our current job. We want an amazing relationship because we’re either unhappy with our current one or we’re unhappy being without one.

Again, this is completely natural, and yet, it sabotages us in our ability to manifest what we want. Because every time we visualize that goal, or say that affirmation of “I am now in a job that I absolutely love, making over $300,000 a year”, what we are actually thinking is “I hate my job so damn much, and I’m sick of living paycheck to paycheck.” Often times that moment where we feel the most motivated to change things is when we are the most fed up with how things are now.

Thankfully there is a way to get around this, and this is a part of the law of attraction that is rarely taught, and not focused upon nearly enough. It is important for us to understand that we are already MASTERS at manifestation. We have manifested a whole life for ourselves. Everything about the situation you are in right now has been masterfully created by you. When you look at it this way, you can start to see the irony in trying to create something different or better, when you are the one who has created what is now. In essence, you are negating and resisting your own creation.

If you are a painter, and you decide that you don’t like what you’ve painted, there is only so much you can do to alter, change, or paint over what you’ve already created. If you are a writer and you don’t like the story, you can’t start writing the new story on top of the one you’ve already written. As painter, eventually you are going to have to choose to start with a new blank canvas. As a writer, you’re going to have to delete or otherwise erase what you’ve already written.

And this is how it works with manifestation as well! One of the biggest mistakes we make in using the law of attraction is we try to create something on top of something we’ve already created, without first realizing that we are actively in the process of creating and recreating the very situation we want to be different. Before we can create something new, we must first learn to erase, to clear the canvas so we can start again.

How to Clear the Canvas

The great news is that once you understand this and can keep it in mind, it is an easy thing to do. Regardless of what specific modality you use for this, your one most powerful tool that you have at your disposal is acceptance.

We spend our lives resisting everything, wishing things to be different from how they are, and trying to change things. Though this is a part of being human, and a motivator that drives us to continually innovate, it is also energetically exhausting, and when it deals with the Law of Attraction, it has a tendency to solidify those things that we do not want.

The second you begin to accept what is going on, you dramatically shift the energetic exchange. You take your power back. Through acceptance you are acknowledging that this is your creation, and that it does not have power over you. In a very real way, this “loosens” the solidity of this manifestation, and puts you in a position where you can erase, modify, or clear this thing.

There is an easy mental exercise you can use, utilizing a “what if” question when you feel you need help accepting something. Simply ask yourself, on a scale of 1-10 what your level of acceptance of this situation/person/thing is. Next, ask yourself, “what if this level of acceptance were to increase?” How would it feel? What might change about your day? Eventually this opens the door for real acceptance to occur.

Other Techniques for Dissolving Unwanted Manifestations

Once acceptance has been mastered, the rest is effortless. All of these will serve you well in this journey.


So in conclusion, remember that if you are struggling to use the Law of Attraction in a way that gets you the results you want, it is important to look at the fact that whatever is going on in your life right now is something that you have already created. If your visualizations, goals, etc, are not working, it may be that you need to focus more on ceasing to create what you are already currently creating, rather than trying to create something else on top of that. This will give you the space and room to introduce this new manifestation into your life.

Your mind is a powerful thing! Remember that no matter where you are right now, or what is happening, you have the power! And sometimes just remembering this is exactly what you need to make it to that next level.
